In August 2016 Chalgrave Parish Council received notification from the solicitors of Charles Wells Ltd, of their intention to dispose of The Queen’s Head, Tebworth. It is the  only pub and retail outlet in the village. A group of villagers got together and formed a Community Benefit Society to try and raise funds to buy the Queen’s Head. We have raised over £150,000 from our small community, and we have applied for a grant loan package from More than a pub: The Community Pub Business Support Programme.  The pub is now on the open market, and time is running out!  We need to raise another £150,000 to buy the pub and renovate it

Background: Some time ago, the Parish Council acted to register the Queen’s Head as a ‘Community Asset‘, giving the local community a period of 6 months from the time of the Brewery’s notification (1st August 2016), to make an offer to purchase the pub from them. After this period expired (1st February 2017), the brewery put it on the open market.

Original Queen’s Head building, prior to 1926

The Queen’s Head has been an important part of our village life for nearly 350 years, with the present building dating back to 1926. The pub has been run for more than 35 years by our charismatic and much-loved publican, Colin Edwynn. The Queens Head featured 26 times in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide during this time and has been used to hold meetings, celebrations, BBQ’s, firework displays, street parties, wedding parties, wakes, and more.

Our pub has been the beating heart of our community for so many years and we do not intend to lose it.

Local residents have now come together to form a Community Interest with the aim of saving our village pub with the potential to obtain grants and business loans, as well as looking to the community  and other interested parties to purchase shares. There’s a lot to do, but we are ready and able. These are exciting times, that’s for sure.

Our new Crowd funding campaign will launch Wednesday 5th April at our folk night at the pub. Why not come along and support us. You will be given a very warm Queens Head welcome.

We really need your help. This project will only succeed if everyone is able to get behind it and support the campaign to save the Queen’s Head. Please do come forward and offer your time, support, skills, and investment.

Help spread our campaign news – please share on social media
