Campagne Update

The 6 month moratorium period for The Queens Head to be a Community Asset will end on the 1st February 2017.  After this date the pub can be purchased by any individual or organisation that makes an acceptable bid to Charles Wells. The Community formed the Tebworth Community Pub Ltd to raise funds to purchase the pub during this period.  To date the funds raised have been disappointing and approximately 35% of the target has been reached.

On the positive side, formal approval has been received from HMRC that the Community shares being offered would qualify for Social Investment Tax Relief.  An overview of the tax relief available can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/social-investment-tax-relief-factsheet/social-investment-tax-relief.

Members of the parish council have been lobbying local politicians for support on our aim of purchasing the pub and objecting to any possible planning change of use such as housing development.  Support has been received from Andrew Percy ( Minister for Local Growth), Andrew Selous (our MP) , Mark Versaillon (our Central Beds councillor).  In addition local politicians have made their support known to Central Beds Planning.

It is the intention to continue to solicit pledges for Community Shares and to pursue grants and social loans which could be available under the More Than Just a Pub initiative which is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government and administrated by The Plunkett Foundation. It is also the intention to look at alternative methods of finance to raise the required capital that would not involve the use of Community Shares.
